RIGA–Russian Ambassador to Latvia Viktor Kalyuzhny, told reporters in Riga that in Russia it would be impossible to hold a gay pride parade, as “it is antihuman, reports BNS (8/12/05).” The Russian diplomat also criticized Latvian authorities’ decision to allow the march of gays and lesbians in Riga.
“Today, mortality rate in Latvia exceeds the number of births, and now here is an attempt to say in the framework of democratic principles that this [the gay parade] is necessary and democratic,” said the Russian Ambassador. “Any normal [emphasis editor] individual should understand that cheating nature is impossible,” concluded Mr. Kalyuzhny.
