President Andris Berzins had a meeting this afternoon with World Federation of Free Latvians (WFFL) Chairman Janis Kukainis, commending the contribution made by the Latvian diaspora and its future role in the nation’s development.
Berzins and Kukainis reviewed WFFL-supported and implemented projects for defense of the diaspora’s interests abroad, and specific cooperation options with Latvia itself, accenting economic priorities and attraction of investment. The president expressed hope that Latvians in foreign lands will become more active in these objectives. In this regard, Kukainis mentioned the planned international conference in 2013 in Riga as an important forum.
The WFFL head also acknowledged the progress made in renewing dual citizenship status, reported LETA.
