The statement by Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, said that: “The European Union and NATO must take up the initiative and oppose the spread of imperialist and revisionist policy in the east of Europe.”
Mariusz Handzlik of the foreign office at the Polish Presidential Chancellery responded to the Russian accusations by calling for an immediate halt in hostilities.
“Russia should start peace talks as soon as possible,” he said. “Ossetia and Abkhazia are essential parts of Georgia.” (pg)
