Latvia’s President, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, Would Accept the Position of United Nations Secretary General

The Spanish newspaper El Mundo reports that the President of Latvia, Vaira Vike-Freiberga, has said she would be glad to accept the position of UN Secretary General. The international press has on a number of occasions mentioned President Vike-Freiberga as a potential successor to the current UN Secretary General. In the 60 years since the UN was founded, no woman has ever served as its leader. The international women’s rights group Equality Now is re-launching It’s Time for a Woman campaign.
