The Defense Ministry last year purchased $5 million worth of communication equipment from the United States under two agreements with Harris Corp. According to the manufacturer, the purchases consisted of various tactical communication equipment including Falcon III radio transmitters. Under the contract concluded in April Estonia bought from Harris 40 million kroons” (2.56 million euros”) worth of different radio equipment for the ground forces and the Navy. The second contract was concluded last summer for the purchase of 2.5 million dollars” worth of radio equipment for the staff and communications battalion. The funds for the purchase came as irretrievable aid from the U.S. Foreign Military Financing program.

Aleksandr Suvorov, 26, of Estonia, has been arraigned on fraud charges in U.S. District Court in Central Islip. He was ordered held without bail. Suvorov is accused of being one of the three hackers who broke into the computerized cashregister records at the Dave & Buster”s in Islandia in 2007 and stole the credit card records of 5,000 customers, newsday.com reported. The resulting use of the information for fraud cost the financial institutions that issued the cards 600,000 dollars, prosecutors have said. Suvorov had been arrested in Germany in March at the request of U.S. prosecutors, but was only recently extradited. The U.S. Department of Justice has said the case is the biggest and most complex case of identity theft to have ever reached courtroom.
