CALL TO ACTION – Prohibit federal agencies from taking any action that recognizes or implies recognition of the sovereignty of the Russian federation over Crimea, its airspace, and its territorial waters.
THE UNITED STATES MUST LEAD THE WAY IN REFUSING TO RECOGNIZE OR LEGITIMIZE THE ANNEXATION OF CRIMEA BY THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION!
PRESIDENT PUTIN’S UNDERMINING OF UKRAINE, BEGINNING WITH THE ILLEGAL ANNEXATON OF CRIMEA DESERVES CODEMNATION BY THE INERNATIONAL COMMUNNITY AND STRICT AND EFFECTIVE SANCTIONS.
Failing to do so sets a dangerous precedent for the forcible takeover of sovereign countries.
Representative Gerald Connolly (D-VA) and Representative Steve Chabot (R-OH) have introduced in the House of Representatives Crimea Annexation Non-recognition Act ( H.R 5241 ) prohibiting federal agencies from taking any action that recognizes or implies recognition of the sovereignty of the Russian Federation over Crimea, its airspace and its territorial waters.
H.R. 5241 takes the decisive action that this situation requires. Without a clear stance on the issue of Crimea we only encourage Putin’s further aggression and interference in eastern Ukraine.
The historical analog to this policy would be the U.S. not extending recognition of de jure or de facto Russian sovereignty over the Baltic countries during the Cold War.
